LE MANS, France - In support of Nissan USA's high profile "Red Thumb" campaign launched in conjunction with NBC and Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine, Nissan's LM P1 drivers are proud to lend their support to the "don't text and drive" cause.

All nine Nissan NISMO athletes will wear gloves featuring the distinctive Red Thumb during testing this weekend at Le Mans in a bid to raise awareness of the number of accidents caused on our roads each year by people texting while behind the wheel.

Speaking about the rationale behind the original U.S. launch of the campaign, Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America Inc. said: "The statistics are alarming. According to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, a quarter of teens respond to a text message once or more every time they drive. Twenty percent of teens and 10 percent of parents admit that they have extended, multi-message text conversations while driving. A 'Red Thumb Reminder' may seem insignificant. However, every time you see it, it reminds you to not text and drive."
