Nissan Canada today announced it’s entering into an agreement with the Province of Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia Power, to work together to promote the introduction of zero emission vehicles in the province. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by all partners is based on a mutual agreement that electric vehicles are one of the best solutions to reduce automotive CO2 emissions.
"Government is excited to be working with industry partners like Nova Scotia Power and Nissan to explore the potential for electric vehicles in Nova Scotia," said Nova Scotia Energy Minister Charlie Parker. "We are working towards a new era in energy self-sufficiency, sustainability and affordability in Nova Scotia. Today’s announcement is another milestone on that journey."
“This announcement adds the Province of Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia Power to a growing list of like-minded partners equally as committed as Nissan to promote and encourage the adoption of zero emission vehicles as a way to combat climate change,” said Allen Childs, President of Nissan Canada Inc. “As a manufacturer we provide innovative vehicles that Canadians love and want to drive, but our partners play an important role in helping build the infrastructure support for electric vehicles that will make a roll-out of the Nissan LEAF, and other electric vehicles in Nova Scotia possible.”
In addition to the MOU, Nissan Canada has agreed to provide 10 all-electric Nissan LEAFs™ for sale to Nova Scotia Power for its ShareReady Electric Vehicle program. Nova Scotia Power will use information collected as part of the program to better understand the impact of electric vehicle use in the province.
Nissan is the first automaker committed to making affordable, all-electric vehicles available to the mass market globally. The Nissan LEAF™ is a medium-size hatchback that seats five adults comfortably and has a range of 160 kilometres (based on U.S. EPA LA4 cycle) on one full charge to satisfy real-world consumer requirements. The well-equipped Nissan LEAF™ is available for $38,395 and has sold more than 100 cars in Canada and 17,000 worldwide. Purchase is eligible through an online reservation process for those registered at www.nissan.ca/leaf and living within 65 kilometres of an EV-certified Nissan dealer.
