Nissan Gives Back to Local Communities with More than 500 Volunteer Hours and Event Sponsorships

- 20 years of support for The Scott Mission ensures kids can camp each summer -

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – The Nissan Canada Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary by extending its long partnership with The Scott Mission on Friday with more than 80 Nissan Canada employees volunteering their day at the 20th annual Nissan Day at the Scott Mission's Camp in Caledon, Ontario.

Every year, Nissan Canada employees are encouraged to give back to the community and help get the Scott Mission's 100-acre camp ready to provide a place for underprivileged children to learn important social and life skills in a positive, caring environment. This year, more than 500 hours of hard labour helped get the camp ready to provide disadvantaged families from across the GTA with a camp experience.

"Every year, Nissan employees continue to show their unwavering support through their efforts to get our camp ready for children who get to escape the city and enjoy all that nature has to offer," said Peter Duraisami, CEO of the Scott Mission. "We believe that all children deserve a chance to go to camp and for 20 years Nissan has helped us welcome close to 600 kids each year. One week at camp can make a big difference in a child's life and it is often their only chance to get out of the city and just have fun and be a kid." 

Nissan Canada vehicles were also out in full force providing the hauling, towing and transporting support needed throughout the day. Included in this mix were the 2013 Nissan Frontier, 2013 Nissan Titan and the all-new 2013 Nissan NV200. Heavy concrete swimming pool slabs were no match for the Titan's 4,309 kg towing capacity and the NV200's large, innovative cargo space was perfect for tools and equipment.   

"Now in its 20th year, the Nissan Canada Foundation is a great example of how many hands can make light work," said Christian Meunier, President Nissan Canada Inc. "This year, we're proud to see so many Nissan hands reaching out to communities across Canada and we will continue to support organizations in whatever ways we can. The Nissan Camp Day and Toronto Challenge are evidence that single actions can have a profound effect on the lives of many."

Nissan Canada also continued its support of the Toronto Challenge on Sunday, June 9. This family run and walk event raises money for non-profit organizations that are improving the quality of life for seniors in the community with funds raised going directly to community programs that contribute to independent living and home support for seniors and to Toronto Long-Term Care Homes & Services.

In addition to providing $10,000 in support as a Gold sponsor of the 5k walk, Nissan Canada provided the use of its all-electric Nissan LEAF to be the event's Pace Car. This vehicle gave the participants something to chase with zero emissions to think about.
