ROLLE, Switzerland - Nissan in Europe announced sales of 51,168 units in May, with calendar year to date sales reaching 271,557 units.

Nissan's results in May 2013 show sales increased in numerous countries across the region, notably Russia, France, Italy and Spain. In the UK where Nissan has a strong manufacturing footprint, sales increased 39% in comparison to May 2012.

Russian sales also increased in May, with the New Almera showing a 140% increase in sales month on month reinforcing Nissan's localization policy (vehicles built locally for local customers).

Whilst European market share rose 0.1% in May 2013 across the region to 3.5%, Italy, Spain, and France showed significant market share increases with the UK, where Nissan has a strong manufacturing footprint, posting a market share over 5%.

Top performing models fuelling this growth across the region included the Sunderland-produced Qashqai and Juke, underlining Nissan's continued dominance of the Crossover sector. Juke sales increased 21% month on month and Qashqai 14.9%.

"May has given Nissan another solid performance across Europe which matched our expectations for the month and Nissan's market share increased above our Asian competitors in several key markets, UK, Spain and France," said Nissan Europe Sales Vice President, Guillaume Cartier.

"In the week that we introduced the dynamic New Micra to media across Europe, we are confident that our robust European line-up will continue to meet customer needs and enable Nissan to make significant gains in 2013."
