The 2225 was launched in 1947 as an improved version; with its 722cc engine, it had a 500kg load capacity and seating for two. The vehicles produced immediately after the war clearly demonstrate the hardships caused by shortages of materials. To cope with such difficulties, complex manufacturing processes were avoided and some parts of the body were even made of wood. The engine was the newly developed Type C (4 cylinders in line, 988cc); nicknamed the "Stone Engine", this was the first Nissan OHV. Its ability was demonstrated when the 210 won its class in the Australian Rally. This historic model was the first car to be exported to America along with the 210 (Sedan). The 320, released in August 1961, was noted for its Bluebird-like front mask and spacious interior. It featured a 1,200cc engine and independent (torsion bar) front-wheel suspension, improving performance and comfort. A long body was also introduced. Following a full change in May 1965, it became the 520. Numerous passenger car technologies were introduced, such as the independent front-wheel suspension. Its comfortable ride and driving ease were hugely appealing. Three types were available and all were equipped with a 1,200cc, 55PS engine: the truck, the van and the pickup. As well as using the newly developed 1,300cc J engine, it increased seating capacity to three. Due to improvements in the suspension, the wheelbase extension (+60mm) and the greater front and rear treads (+80mm), driving ease and ride comfort were greatly improved. In the intervening ten years, the A20 was widely used along with the Datsun Truck as a very capable yet compact vehicle for commercial goods transport. The second-generation A220 was launched in March 1964, followed by the A221 with its D11 engine in April 1966.
