PRESS RELEASE: Nissan's "Project Titan" returns home from remarkable 10-day Alaskan adventure

DALLAS – Just back from an adventure of a lifetime, Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Alumni David Guzman and Kevin McMahon are now big fans of Nissan's Project Titan and the Nissan Fans who helped bring it to life. After the two veterans put the truck through a grueling 10-day adventure in Alaska, they appeared with Project Titan to greet media at the State Fair of Texas.

"We were told flat-out, ‘get her (Project Titan) stuck; we want to use the winches.' She's built with some unbelievable capabilities: front winch, rear winch. And I had the fortunate pleasure of driving her through the mud. David and I were taking turns driving on different adventures and I could not get her stuck," said Kevin McMahon, WWP alumnus.

Project Titan was uniquely developed with input from Nissan's fans via the Nissan Trucks Facebook page; the comments and direction helped to make a ride worthy of carrying two U.S. soldiers, Iraqi War vets, on an Alaskan adventure.

The Recon Titan wrap on the truck complemented hardware like the NISMO cold-air intake and Borla cat-back exhaust system. To handle the terrain, there were 18-inch Fuel Revolver D525 wheels wrapped in 35-inch Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tires. Adding utility was a matching customized all-terrain camping trailer featuring a camp-style kitchen, tent, water/fuel storage and a spare tire.

"We have specific ideas when we start a project. But when you involve customers, your ideas can go in different directions. But we ended up in a great place, so from that perspective it was very successful," said Phil O'Connor, director, Nissan Marketing.

WWP is a veteran services organization that helps post-9/11 veterans and their families transition into civilian life; WWP's goal is to help find innovative ways to honor and empower these Wounded Warriors for a lifetime.

"The most cherished moment was when we came up on a ridge and I was driving, and we parked the truck. And all of a sudden, from the bottom of a tree line across the bay we saw an American eagle come up. What could be more picture perfect, being in a truck like that, that view, seeing that American eagle? It meant a lot," said David Guzman, WWP alumnus.

The Warriors' ultimate Alaskan adventure* was inspired by Joe Byers. Byers was among 2,500 other outdoor journalists who were asked to describe their idea of the ultimate adventure. When coupled with the Titan's work-hard, play-hard design and rugged construction, Byers' adventure concept is now part of these warriors' history.

"On behalf of all of my brothers and sisters in the Wounded Warrior Project, and service members, I can't say thank you enough to any of the organizations. To have been selected and then to complete this adventure – I have got memories that will last more than a lifetime," said McMahon.

* Nissan documented the entire adventure on camera and in a YouTube series that is set to launch later this fall. For a detailed look at the team's thrilling journey through the Last Frontier, visit the Nissan Trucks Facebook page: Facebook.com/nissantrucks.
