  • Two Altima supported by Nissan Financial Services Australia and Hertz

MELBOURNE, Australia – Nissan's involvement in Australian motorsport continues to expand, with the addition of two Nissan Altima models to the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series.

Initiated by Musselbrook Nissan dealer principal Michael Rinkin, the Altima nameplate joined the unique Aussie Racing Cars class this season, with Rinkin and Craig Thompson driving the two entries, backed by Nissan Financial Services Australia and Hertz respectively.

The Aussie Racing Cars Series is one of the most popular support categories to the V8 Supercars Championship.

The "pint-sized" cars use a 1200cc motorcycle engine in its small chassis. With close to 40 cars in each race, the category is renowned as one of the closest and most exciting in the country.

The next round of the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series will be held at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich, Queensland, with the category also supporting the V8 Supercars Championship at iconic circuit such as Mount Panorama, Surfers Paradise and Phillip Island.

"We saw the racing and it looked very competitive," said Michael Rinkin of the #71 Nissan Financial Services Australia Nissan Altima Aussie Racing Car. "We realized that Nissan wasn't represented, and being a Nissan dealer, we thought it would be great to get out there, build an Altima and go join the fun. We've had our Nissan-shaped cars for a couple of months. There's only been two of us, but hopefully some more to come soon. We reckon they're the best looking car on the track, and many of the fans have agreed with us."
