2017 Nissan Sentra Press Kit: Overview

The Nissan Sentra, the company's third best-selling vehicle behind Altima and Rogue, has been a mainstay in the compact sedan segment for 35 years and seven generations. Following a consistent stream of product enhancements year after year – along with steadily increasing sales – Sentra extends its sporty SR model in 2017 with the addition of a new SR Turbo. The expansion of the lineup for 2017 follows revisions for the 2016 model year to the Sentra exterior and interior, and the addition of an expanded suite of available safety and driving aid technologies.

The new SR Turbo features an advanced 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG^TM) Turbo 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. It is available with both 6-speed manual and uniquely tuned Xtronic transmissions. The SR Turbo also offers upgraded suspension, steering and front brakes. Along with the new SR Turbo, the 2017 Sentra is offered in five models: S 6MT, S Xtronic, SV, SR and SL grades. Enhancements to all 2017 Sentra grades include improved interior quietness due to increased front and rear window glass thickness, and nearly double the storage capacity in the front center console.

A Nissan "Family" Exterior

The 2017 Sentra continues the extensive exterior redesign from one year ago, bringing its appearance closer in look and feel to its more upscale showroom siblings. All three Nissan sedans – Maxima, Altima and Sentra – reflect Nissan's new design language first introduced on the dramatic Nissan Murano crossover. The Sentra exterior combines a sense of sportiness with its refined style and proportions.

Key features of the Sentra exterior include a bold front fascia, grille, fenders, hood and signature boomerang-shaped headlights. LED low-beam headlights with LED signature accents are offered on Sentra SR and Sentra SL grades. In the rear, the boomerang-shaped taillights add a more premium appearance.

The Sentra exterior design is elegant, modern and refined, reflecting a "professional" character targeted at upwardly bound buyers who aspire to drive something more upscale than other designs in the segment. Exterior features include chrome door handles and chrome window accents, and available heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals. The coefficient of drag is 0.29 for S, SV and SR grades and 0.30 for the SL trim level.

The Sentra SR offers a sportier appearance, with unique design 17-inch forked 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels, lower body side sill extensions, rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light, fog lights and chrome exhaust tip finisher.

Nine colors are available – Red Alert, Brilliant Silver, Super Black, Aspen White (premium charge), Gun Metallic, Graphite Blue, Cayenne Red, Deep Blue Pearl and Fresh Powder.

A Roomy, Refined Interior Environment

Inside, the 2017 Sentra features one of the largest interiors in class, with 111.0 cubic feet of total interior volume. Helping make this possible is the long wheelbase (106.3 inches), which helps provide both ample rear seat legroom of 37.4 inches and large trunk capacity of 15.1 cubic feet. The rear seat is a standard 60/40-split fold-down design, adding versatility to the large trunk space.

The intuitive interior layout emphasizes driver control and exceptional seat comfort for all occupants. The high-quality interior design features materials not usually found in compact vehicles, including soft-touch instrument panel and door armrests and available leather-appointed seating.

Standard features include a 6-way manual driver's seat, 4-way manual front passenger's seat, front and rear door pockets, front center console with padded armrest and cupholders, rear seat armrest with cupholders, air conditioning with in-cabin microfilter and available Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system.

Other features include tilt and telescopic steering column, power windows with driver's one-touch auto up/down with auto reverse, power door locks with auto-locking feature, remote keyless entry, Nissan Intelligent Key® keyless entry and push button ignition system and RearView Monitor.

The standard Sentra audio system is an AM/FM/CD system with four speakers and USB connection for iPod® and other compatible devices. Other available audio systems include a 6-speaker AM/FM/CD system with 5.0-inch color display and a Bose® Premium audio system with eight speakers. Also available is SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately), while Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System is standard on all grades.

Sentra SV, SR and SL grades include a 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD) located between the tachometer and speedometer. These grades also include Siri Eyes Free® Voice Recognition as standard equipment.

Advanced Connectivity and Safety Shield Technologies

The 2017 Sentra offers advanced technology features that help owners stay connected. Standard on Sentra SL and available on SV and SR grades is NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps, featuring a 5.8-inch color touch-screen, NissanConnect Mobile Apps, SiriusXM® Traffic, SiriusXM® Travel Link™ with fuel prices, weather, movie listing, sports scores and stock prices (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately), and Nissan Voice Recognition for audio and navigation.

Also available is NissanConnect Services powered by SiriusXM®. It offers emergency preparedness, remote access, customizable alerts and convenience services (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately). The system allows the driver to set customized alerts for family and friends – such as speed, curfew and boundary notifications. It is available on Sentra SR and SL grades as part of the Premium Technology Packages.

A number of Nissan's advanced Safety Shield Technologies are available for the 2017 model year – Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

In addition, Sentra's list of standard safety and security features include the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors; front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags with rollover sensor for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection; 3-point front and rear seatbelts, front seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors; and LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren).

Sentra also offers child safety rear door locks; Zone Body construction featuring front and rear crumple zones and occupant zone; Nissan Immobilizer system and anti-theft alarm system; and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with position monitoring and available Easy Fill Tire Alert system.

Fuel-Efficient 1.8-liter Engine and Advanced Xtronic Transmission

All 2017 Sentra models (except SR Turbo) utilize a fuel-efficient 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an advanced Xtronic transmission with sub-planetary gear. A 6-speed manual transmission is also available with the Sentra S grade.

The engine offers a longer stroke than typical engines in its class, resulting in improved combustion speed and efficiency. It is equipped with a twin Continuously Variable Timing Control (CVTC) system that modulates both the intake and exhaust valve opening time (similar to that used on the flagship Nissan Maxima). In addition, the valve springs are shaped similar to a beehive, with a smaller diameter towards the top – reducing inertial weight, improving valvetrain efficiency and smoothing engine operation. The engine is rated at 124 horsepower (130 horsepower S 6MT) and 125 lb-ft of torque (128 lb-ft S 6MT).

The Xtronic transmission offers a wide gear ratio range of 7.3:1 through use of a sub-planetary gear and smaller pulleys, resulting in high-speed fuel efficiency and responsive acceleration. The Xtronic's acceleration feel is enhanced with a D-mode step shift program that simulates shifts, giving a more natural acceleration feeling without holding a high rpm constant, letting rpms build as speed builds. The D-Step Logic Control helps provide enhanced drivability with a stable, natural and crisp shift feel.

Fuel economy is rated at 29 mpg city, 37 mpg highway and 32 mpg combined with the Xtronic transmission. The Sentra S with 6-speed manual transmission is rated at 27 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined.

The 2017 Sentra also delivers responsive handling through an independent strut front suspension with stabilizer bar and torsion beam rear suspension with integrated stabilizer bar. The suspension also utilizes high frequency-response shock absorbers.

Sentra also features standard Active Understeer Control system (not available on S 6MT), similar to that utilized on Altima. The AUC system utilizes intelligent control logic and high-response brake actuators to lightly brake the inside front wheels during cornering (as required) to increase yaw-moment. Using the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)/Traction Control System (TCS) as its base, Active Understeer Control is almost undetectable when it operates.

Vehicle speed-sensitive Electric Power Steering (EPS) and power-assisted vented front disc/rear drum braking system are standard, with 4-wheel disc brakes available on SR and SL grades.

Available wheels and tire combinations include 16-inch steel wheels with full covers or 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 205/55R16 size all-season tires for S and SV grades, along with 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 205/50R17 all-season tires for SR and SL.

A Range of Well-Equipped Models

The 2017 Nissan Sentra is offered in five models: S 6MT, S Xtronic, SV, SR and SL. Along with the high-value list of standard equipment on Sentra S, the popular SV grade content features standard Siri Eyes Free®, meter display with chrome accents and Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD) with 5.0-inch display.

Sentra SV also includes Nissan Intelligent Key®, RearView Monitor, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately), sliding front armrest, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and Easy-Fill Tire Alert.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Press Kit: Overview

• First-ever Sentra NISMO is first mainstream U.S. Nissan model to offer motorsports-inspired NISMO factory-tuned performance

The 2017 Sentra NISMO is the latest in a long line of compact Nissan performance sedans going back nearly 50 years to the Datsun 510 and the original Sentra SE-R. The new, first-ever Sentra NISMO is also the first mainstream U.S. Nissan model to offer motorsports-inspired NISMO factory-tuned performance. It joins the GT-R NISMO, 370Z NISMO, JUKE NISMO and JUKE NISMO RS in the 2017 Nissan lineup.

The 2017 Sentra NISMO model's comprehensive transformation from everyday sedan to a highly personal performance machine includes aggressive exterior treatment, performance-oriented interior and unique suspension tuning.

"With the addition of the new Sentra NISMO, the enthusiasts behind NISMO production sports vehicles like the GT-R NISMO and 370Z NISMO sought to widen the reach of the NISMO brand," said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "But they wanted to do it without diluting the NISMO brand – which meant Sentra NISMO going deeper than just visual changes to an enhanced, visceral driving experience."

At the heart of any NISMO-badged production vehicle is the engine, such as the GT-R NISMO's 600-horsepower 3.8-liter V6. For the new Sentra NISMO, the engineers started with a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that fit perfectly within the aerodynamically aggressive Sentra NISMO bodywork. More than just an engine transplant, however, the motorsports-inspired transformation from practical sedan to a vehicle worthy of the NISMO badge involved a precisely balanced tuning of body, interior, chassis, suspension, steering and powertrain.

"Sentra is Nissan's third most popular vehicle behind Rogue and Altima. For the 2017 model year, a new Sentra SR Turbo grade was added to the previous lineup of Sentra S, SV, SR and SL trim levels," added Bunce. "But it is the new Sentra NISMO that will undoubtedly set the nameplate's image on fire. It is the first introduction of the NISMO brand on a core, affordable Nissan model in the U.S."

A Distinctive Presence

The first thing most people will notice about the new Sentra NISMO is its highly aggressive presence, which goes even above the sporty Sentra SR and Sentra SR Turbo grades. Applying the NISMO philosophy of "totally balanced tuning for high speed driving, to provide ultimate driving pleasure," the Sentra NISMO aerodynamic design focus was on realizing zero lift without harming overall coefficient of drag (Cd). Therefore Sentra NISMO offers the same 0.29 Cd as standard Sentra models, but features a 30 percent reduction in lift force. While most of the reduction is provided by the unique NISMO rear spoiler, the revised rear bumper design also contributes.

Beyond the aerodynamic enhancements, the overall exterior appearance is instantly recognized as pure NISMO with its signature "layered double wing" design in the front, side and rear lower body panels. A thin red stripe accents the lower panels.

In front, a unique front fascia dominates, along with standard LED Daytime Running Lights, NISMO dark chrome V-Motion grille and NISMO badge. Other styling features include unique side sills, NISMO rear fascia and spoiler, NISMO exhaust finisher, dark chrome door handles and trunk finisher, rear NISMO badge and black NISMO outside mirror caps with integrated turn signals and NISMO red stripe.

Helping give Sentra NISMO its aggressive stance, while also helping enhance handling performance, are 18-inch NISMO 10-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels mounted with specially selected 215/45R18 Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires. Ride height has also been reduced by 0.4-inch.

The 2017 Sentra NISMO is offered in four exterior colors – Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black and Aspen White.

Inside, the Sentra NISMO interior is designed to support exciting driving – starting with unique NISMO front seats with logo and additional side bolstering. The rear seats feature unique cloth material with red stitching.

Red motorsports-inspired accents are found throughout the interior, including on the unique Alcantara and leather-wrapped steering wheel, the push button start with red start ring, NISMO meter cluster with red tachometer, leather shifter knob and NISMO embroidered carpets. A dark headliner and NISMO logo on the instrument panel complete the special interior treatment. Just one interior color is offered, Charcoal with red accents. "The NISMO interior treatment adds a high level of driving support and sporty style without compromising the everyday drivability," said Bunce.

Along with the long list of unique NISMO features, the 2017 Sentra NISMO also offers a 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD) located between the tachometer and speedometer, soft-touch instrument panel, sliding armrest, Nissan Intelligent Key® keyless entry, RearView Monitor, power windows with driver's one-touch auto up/down with auto reverse, power door locks with auto-locking feature, remote keyless entry and remote trunk and fuel-filler door releases.

An AM/FM/CD system with 5.0-inch color display, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately), Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, Siri Eyes Free™ Voice Recognition and smartphone integration for iPhone® and Android phones are also standard. Balanced Performance

As a pure factory tuned performance vehicle, Sentra NISMO offers buyers something aftermarket tuners can't – a balanced approach that goes deep under the skin of the vehicle with modifications to the structural integrity.

Starting with the solid Sentra body, which packs ample interior roominess in a compact-size exterior, the Sentra NISMO body structure is enhanced with a number of factory tuned body reinforcements. The cowl is thicker and vehicle floor and rear parcel shelf are reinforced to stiffen the body structure, improving responsiveness to steering inputs – helping provide an enhanced platform for the new engine and NISMO-tuned suspension.

"This is not just a ‘lipstick' application that adds a little performance and a lot of flash," added Bunce. "The beauty of the new Sentra NISMO is that every single aspect from front fascia to rear spoiler and everything in between works together to provide an enhanced driving experience – with equal emphasis on power and handling."

The power side of the equation comes in the form of Sentra NISMO's new 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG^TM) turbocharged engine, which is shared with the new-for-2017 Sentra SR Turbo model. Rated at 188 horsepower at 5,600 RPM and 177 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 - 5,200 RPM, the 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine includes a 10.5:1 compression ratio, Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores, a variable pressure oil pump and a low-pressure EGR system, which helps lower exhaust gas temperature and improve knock sensitivity.

The Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) includes an intermediate lock function on the intake side, while the use of spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores (versus the iron liners) provides an estimated 12 percent reduction in internal friction, which also improves anti-knock performance and reduces engine weight. The DIG^TM system helps improve combustion, enhancing power, torque, economy and emissions, while the use of the turbocharger and intercooler helps boost power. The variable timing control for both intake and exhaust cycles improves low-end engine response.

The engine is matched with choice of a 6-speed manual transmission, with gear ratios selected to take maximum advantage of the engine's powerband and torque curve, or an advanced, tuned Xtronic transmission.

"It was important to offer a 6-speed manual transmission with the new Sentra NISMO, both to reinforce its pure performance credentials and to up the direct engagement factor between driver and the vehicle," said Bunce. "While today's sophisticated, paddle shifted automatic gearboxes can often match or exceed the performance of a manual transmission, there's still nothing like the experience of rowing through the gears with three pedals in the footwell."

For buyers choosing the Xtronic transmission, it has been specially tuned to match the engine's performance. Acceleration feel is enhanced with the Xtronic's D-mode step shift program, giving a more linear acceleration feeling without holding a high rpm constant, letting rpms build as speed builds.

Delivering on the handling aspect of the Sentra NISMO, the engineering team sought to provide a noticeable improvement even beyond the enhanced performance of the new Sentra SR Turbo. Five key areas were designated to meet the NISMO standards – handling response, grip, steering feel, body control and ride/handling balance.

The NISMO-tuned independent strut front/rear torsion beam suspension goes beyond the SR Turbo's enhanced design (versus non-turbo Sentra grades) by adopting monotube rear dampers and unique tuning of the front springs and struts. The lightweight monotube shock design features separate oil and gas chambers and high-pressure gas charge to help provide quicker response to damper stroke and velocity changes. Faster damper response means faster reaction to changing steering or road conditions. In addition, the NISMO tuning of the springs and struts helps improve body control (roll and pitch) for higher demand cornering.

Steering effort of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system has also been specially tuned to provide a "NISMO feel." The special dialing in of the effort/response relationship helps provide good highway and winding road feedback, precise on-center definition without overly high driver effort and a linear, direct steering feel at turn-in.

Also contributing to the overall handling performance is the unique Sentra NISMO wheel and tire combination. Utilizing NISMO 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels mounted with newly developed 215/45ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires, cornering power and grip levels are improved, even over the new Sentra SR Turbo. It is the first time 18-inch wheels and tires have been offered on a Sentra. For customers seeking maximum grip, high-performance 215/45WR18 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R summer tires are available through Nissan dealers.

Like the SR Turbo, the steering system includes a larger steering motor and revised electronic mapping to provide reduced effort at parking and low speeds. The Sentra NISMO also utilizes a 4-wheel disc brake system with 11.7-inch vent front discs and 11.5-inch solid rear discs.

The Nissan Sentra, the company's third best-selling vehicle behind the Altima and Rogue, has been a mainstay in the compact sedan segment for 35 years and seven generations. Following a consistent stream of product enhancements year after year – along with steadily increasing sales – Sentra kicks things up a few notches – 64, to be precise, if measured in horsepower – with the addition of the new 2017 Sentra SR Turbo.

Based on the popular Sentra SR grade level, which accounts for more than 15 percent total Sentra sales, the new SR Turbo maintains the SR's unique sporty exterior, interior and wheel treatments. Under the skin, however, things get radically different.

At the heart of the 2017 SR Turbo is its new 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG™) turbocharged engine rated at 188 horsepower at 5,600 RPM and 177 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 - 5,200 RPM – 64 more horsepower and 52 more lb-ft of torque (41% more) than the non-turbo 2017 Sentra SR grade's 1.8-liter powerplant¹.

The new 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine includes a 10.5:1 compression ratio, Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores, a variable pressure oil pump and a low-pressure EGR system, which helps lower exhaust gas temperature and improve knock sensitivity.

The Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) includes an intermediate lock function on the intake side, while the use of spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores (versus the iron liners) provides an estimated 12 percent reduction in internal friction, which also improves anti-knock performance and reduces engine weight.

The DIG™ system helps improve combustion, enhancing power, torque, economy and emissions, while the use of the turbocharger and intercooler helps boost power. The variable timing control for both intake and exhaust cycles improves low-end engine response.

As expected of a vehicle with an engine like the 1.6-liter turbo, the Sentra SR Turbo is available with a 6-speed manual transmission, with gear ratios selected to take maximum advantage of the engine's powerband and torque curve.

The SR Turbo is also offered with an advanced Xtronic transmission, a version unique to the SR Turbo to match the new engine's performance. The transmission offers a wide gear ratio range of 7.3:1 through use of a sub-planetary gear and smaller pulleys, resulting in high-speed fuel efficiency and responsive acceleration. The SR Turbo's powerful acceleration feel is enhanced with the Xtronic's D-mode step shift program that simulates shifts, giving a more natural acceleration feeling without holding a high rpm constant, letting rpms build as speed builds.

Of course, the new SR Turbo's performance is not only about the engine. To help handle the increased power and torque, significant changes were made to the suspension, steering and brakes to give the new SR Turbo a great driving feel.

The enhancements to the independent strut front/rear torsion beam suspension are designed to handle the increased power and include a 10 percent increase in front spring stiffness. The SR Turbo-specific front and rear dampers have been optimized for use with the 17-inch wheels and tires – front damping has been increased 23 percent and rear damping by 50 percent.

In addition, the suspension benefits from body enhancements that range from increased front cowl thickness to new steering gear mounting. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system changes include a larger steering motor and revised electronic mapping to provide a balanced feel between reduced effort at parking and low speed situations and enhanced feedback on highways and winding roads.

Larger front brakes and calipers are utilized in the SR Turbo's 4-wheel disc brake system – 11.7-inch vent front (versus the 11.0-inch front discs of the standard Sentra) and 11.5-inch solid rear discs. In addition, the Active Understeer Control system has been optimized for the SR Turbo.

The result of the new powerplant, unique suspension tuning and other enhancements is an improved acceleration feeling from standing starts and highway passing, along with improved handling response and enhanced ride comfort.

Other enhancements to all 2017 Sentra grades include improved interior quietness due to increased front and rear window glass thickness and nearly double the storage capacity in the front center console.

Like the non-Turbo Sentra SR, the exterior is marked by LED low beam projector headlights with LED accents, lower body side sill extensions, rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light, fog lights, chrome exhaust finisher, heated outside mirrors with LED turn signals, and unique design 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 205/50R17 all-season tires.

The new SR Turbo includes a standard power sliding glass moonroof with tilt feature and SR Turbo badging.

The SR Turbo is offered in seven exterior colors: Red Alert, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Aspen White (premium color) and Deep Blue Pearl.

Inside, the SR Turbo (like the non-turbo SR) includes sport interior trim, premium sport cloth seats, driver's seatback pocket and heated front seats. Like all 2017 Sentra SV, SR and SL trim levels, it also features 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD) located between the tachometer and speedometer.

All Sentra grades offer ample roominess in a compact-size exterior – featuring one of the largest interiors in class, with 111.0 cubic feet of total interior volume. Helping make this possible is the long wheelbase (106.3 inches), which helps provide both ample rear seat legroom of 37.4 inches and large trunk capacity of 15.1 cubic feet. The rear seat is a standard 60/40-split fold-down design, adding versatility to the large trunk space.

The high-quality Sentra SR Turbo interior design features soft-touch instrument panel and door armrests, Nissan Intelligent Key® keyless entry and push button ignition system and RearView Monitor. The Nissan Sentra, the company's third best-selling vehicle behind the Altima and Rogue, has been a mainstay in the compact sedan segment for 35 years and seven generations. The 2017 Sentra NISMO is the latest in a long line of compact Nissan performance sedans going back nearly 50 years to the Datsun 510 and the original Sentra SE-R. The first-ever Sentra NISMO is also the first mainstream U.S. Nissan model to offer motorsports-inspired NISMO factory-tuned performance. It joins the GT-R NISMO, 370Z NISMO, JUKE NISMO and JUKE NISMO RS in the 2017 Nissan lineup.

The 2017 Sentra NISMO model's comprehensive transformation from everyday sedan to a highly personal performance machine includes aggressive exterior treatment, performance-oriented interior and unique suspension tuning.

The motorsports-inspired exterior features NISMO signature "layered double wing" design treatments in the front, side and rear lower body panels, with thin red stripe accents in the lower panels. In front, a unique front fascia dominates, along with standard LED Daytime Running Lights, NISMO black grille and NISMO badge. Other unique styling features include unique side sills, NISMO rear fascia and spoiler, NISMO exhaust finisher, chrome door handles and trunk finisher, rear NISMO badge and black NISMO outside mirror caps with integrated turn signals and NISMO red stripe. The 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine includes a 10.5:1 compression ratio, a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores and a variable pressure oil pump. The DIG^TM system helps improve combustion, enhancing power, torque, economy and emissions, while use of the turbocharger and intercooler helps boost power. The variable timing control for both intake and exhaust cycles improves low-end engine response.

The engine is matched with choice of a 6-speed manual transmission, with gear ratios selected to take maximum advantage of the engine's powerband and torque curve, or an advanced, tuned Xtronic transmission. The Sentra NISMO also receives an enhanced body structure and NISMO-tuned steering and suspension tuning.

The NISMO-tuned independent strut front/rear torsion beam suspension goes beyond the SR Turbo's enhanced design (versus non-turbo Sentra grades) by adopting monotube rear dampers and unique tuning of the front springs and struts. The lightweight monotube shock design features separate oil and gas chambers and high-pressure gas charge to help provide quicker response to damper stroke and velocity changes. Faster damper response means faster reaction to changing steering or road conditions. In addition, NISMO tuning of the springs and struts helps improve body control (roll and pitch) for higher demand cornering.

Steering effort of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system has also been specially tuned to provide a "NISMO feel." The special dialing in of the effort/response relationship helps provide good highway and winding road feedback, precise on-center definition without overly high driver effort and a linear, direct steering feel at turn-in.

Also contributing to the overall handling performance is the unique Sentra NISMO wheel and tire combination. Utilizing NISMO 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels mounted with newly developed 215/45ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires, cornering power and grip levels are improved, even over the new Sentra SR Turbo. It is the first time 18-inch wheels and tires have been offered on a Sentra. At a Glance: 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo

With its unique sporty exterior, interior and wheel treatments, the SR grade has always stood apart from the rest of the popular Nissan Sentra lineup. For 2017, Sentra SR kicks things up a few notches – 64, to be precise, if measured in horsepower – with the addition of the new Sentra SR Turbo.

At the heart of the SR Turbo is its new 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIGÔ) turbocharged engine that delivers a 50 percent horsepower increase from the normally aspirated 1.8-liter Sentra SR powerplant. Rated at 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, the new SR Turbo engine offers 64 more horsepower and 52 more lb-ft of torque than non-turbo 2017 Sentra models1.

To help handle the increased power and torque, the new Sentra SR Turbo also receives an enhanced body structure, revised steering system, larger front disc brakes, new Xtronic transmission with manual mode (SR Turbo is also offered with a 6-speed manual transmission) and unique suspension tuning. The result is improved acceleration feeling from standing starts and highway passing, improved handling and enhanced ride comfort.

The Sentra SR Turbo's new 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine includes a 10.5:1 compression ratio, a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), spray-coated and mirror-finish cylinder bores and a variable pressure oil pump.

The DIGÔ system helps improve combustion, enhancing power, torque, economy and emissions, while use of the turbocharger and intercooler helps boost power. The variable timing control for both intake and exhaust cycles improves low-end engine response. Taken together, the engine combines spirited performance and efficient fuel economy*.

The enhancements to the suspension are designed to handle the increased power and include a 10 percent increase in front spring stiffness. The SR Turbo-specific front and rear damper tuning has been optimized for use with the 17-inch wheels and tires – front damping has been increased 23 percent and rear damping by 50 percent. In addition, the suspension benefits from body enhancements that range from increased front cowl thickness to new steering gear mounting.

The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system changes include a larger steering motor and remapped electronic to provide a balance feel between reduced effort at parking and low speed situations and enhanced feedback on highways and winding roads. Larger front brakes and calipers are also utilized, and Sentra's Active Understeer Control system has been optimized for the SR Turbo.

Other enhancements to all 2017 Sentra grades include improved interior quietness due to increased front and rear window glass thickness and nearly double the storage capacity in the front center console.

The new Sentra SR Turbo includes a standard power sliding glass moonroof with tilt feature and SR Turbo badging. Like the non-Turbo Sentra SR, the exterior is marked by LED low beam projector headlights with LED accents, lower body side sill extensions, rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light, fog lights, chrome exhaust finisher, heated outside mirrors with LED turn signals, and unique design 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 205/50R17 all-season tires. Inside, both SR and SR Turbo grades include sport interior trim, premium sport cloth seats, driver's seatback pocket and heated front seats.

Like all 2017 Sentra SV, SR and SL grades, the new SR Turbo also features a 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD) located between the tachometer and speedometer, and standard Siri Eyes Free™ Voice Recognition.

All 2017 Sentras also offer ample roominess in a compact-size exterior, including an outstanding 37.4 inches of rear seat legroom. The intuitive interior layout emphasizes driver control and exceptional seat comfort for all occupants. The high-quality interior design features soft-touch instrument panel and door armrests, Nissan Intelligent Key® keyless entry and push button ignition system and RearView Monitor. The optional SR Turbo Premium Package adds leather-appointed seating, auto-dimming inside mirror with HomeLink® Universal Transceiver, and Bose® Premium audio system with eight speakers.

Also offered is NissanConnect^SM with Navigation and Mobile Apps – with 5.8-inch color touch-screen display, Nissan Voice Recognition for audio and navigation, SiriusXM® Traffic and SiriusXM® Travel Link® (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately) and NissanConnect Mobile Apps.
