A letter from Brent Hagan, Nissan North America's product planning team

''Nissan Titan Truckumentary'' chapter 1 explores brand's truck history

RELATED STORY: "Nissan Titan Truckumentary" chapter 1

Hello, I'm Brent Hagan from Nissan North America's product planning team. I've been honored to be involved with the next-generation TITAN for the past several years and to work with such a dedicated group of Designers, Engineers, and Planners. I can speak on behalf of our entire team to say that we're eagerly anticipating the reveal of this truck at the upcoming 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in just a few weeks.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, we first thought it was important to look back to where we've come from as a truck manufacturer. Some of you might be surprised to learn that Nissan's origins in this country began with pickups. Even though the 37-horsepower Datsun 1000 trucks were a far cry from today's full-size pickups, Nissan has a proud heritage with trucks and we have established our credentials through 55+ years of hard work and listening to the unmet needs of the market.

More than a job, though, the Nissan truck team's true passion is our work to satisfy the wants and needs of today's pickup customers.

Nearly every person that has designed, planned, developed or tested the next-generation TITAN has either a direct tie to rural, heartland America and/or is an avid outdoorsman. I'm no exception, growing up on a farm in Thompson Station, Tennessee and having been immersed in the outdoor lifestyle from the time I was born.

I learned to drive a truck when I could barely reach the pedals and will always keep one in my driveway. My lifestyle dictates the need for a truck and so my wife and I like to joke that if we ever bottom out financially, we'll sell the house before our pickup.

Being in front of the camera for the "Truckumentary" has been a new and unfamiliar experience for me, but I've agreed to participate because I'm a firm believer in the people and process that created this truck, and I believe their stories need to be told. Namely, I want everyone to understand that those of us who work on TITAN are really not that different from the folks whom we envision as the end owners of this truck.

It's been a great adventure and the road ahead certainly has a few twists, as you'll see. We hope you'll join us for the whole journey.

Regards,
Brent
