Alfonso Albaisa

Alfonso E. Albaisa is vice president of Nissan Design America (NDA), based in San Diego. At NDA, Albaisa is responsible for design activities for the Americas region and plays a part in planning future design strategies for the Nissan and Infiniti brands.


Previously, he held assignments in Japan and the United Kingdom as product chief designer and vice president, respectively.

After graduating from Pratt Institute in New York with a bachelor's degree in industrial design, Albaisa started his career as an automotive designer at NDA in 1988.

Albaisa's 22 years at Nissan have allowed him to experience a wide range of projects as a designer and in various management capacities at three of Nissan's five global design centers. Most recently, Albaisa oversaw the design development of vehicles that include Nissan JUKE, Altima, Maxima and Rogue, as well as minor changes of Armada, Quest and Infiniti QX56. Albaisa also led design for the 2006 Nissan Urge concept car and other exploratory projects, as well as studio expansions at NDA in 2004.
