DeltaWing Tests at Sebring Reveal An Innovative Car with Conventional Details

Nissan’s DeltaWing experimental racecar made its track debut last week at the 12 Hours of Sebring and has been turning out test laps at the Sebring Racetrack since. The track, which is renowned for its rough surface, still includes old sections of World War II-era landing fields that were made of concrete sections with large seams. 

“All of the stuff we learn from this project we are going to be able to cross into road car development,” said Darren Cox, general manager, Nissan Europe. 

The DeltaWing project is an incubator for innovation, says Nissan, and Sebring is only the first public revelation. In June, it will be racing in the 24-hour Le Mans endurance race, as the only vehicle in an experimental class.  At Le Mans, a lighter load, with reduced necessary horsepower and fuel consumption, should mean fewer tire changes and brake swaps resulting in less time invested in maintenance and more time racing.
