First 100% Electic Nissan LEAFs Take to the Roads in The Netherlands

AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands (March 23, 2011) --The first 100% electric Nissan LEAF compact family cars have been delivered in the Netherlands.

The first 100% electric Nissan LEAF compact family cars have been delivered in the Netherlands.

LeasePlan, the City of Amsterdam and BAM Building Contractors received a total of 18 white Nissan LEAFs from a Nissan dealer in Amsterdam. During the next few weeks, another 82 cars will be delivered in the Netherlands. The country is one of the first recipients of the zero-emission vehicle in Europe, along with Portugal and the UK.

Working with Nissan, LeasePlan and the City of Amsterdam have pledged to put electric cars on the map in the Netherlands. LeasePlan is the first lease company in Europe to include the Nissan LEAF in its fleet. City of Amsterdam users will include Rijkswaterstaat, the executive arm of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.

The first hundred Nissan LEAFs delivered to the Netherlands are part of a pilot project that Nissan is carrying out together with the City, a pioneer in the introduction of electric vehicles. Nissan is the first car manufacturer in the world to mass market a 100% electric family car on a global basis.

"Economical, exceptionally clean and quiet - without compromising on comfort, safety and performance. Today, we are taking a special step with the delivery of the Nissan LEAF. We are on our way to a new, sustainable form of car driving," says Aad van Dijk, Managing Director of Nissan in the Netherlands.

Operation via smartphone

Van Dijk continues: "The Nissan LEAF is more than just a sustainable car. The car is full of high-tech communication and information systems. As a result, users can follow and regulate battery charging via their smartphone or PC."

The interior temperature of the Nissan can also be set remotely. "The car's innovative technology fits perfectly with the increasing use of smartphones, mobile internet and the new possibilities that apps offer," says Van Dijk.

The Nissan LEAFs are supplied by Auto Visscher, a Nissan dealer in Amsterdam. More dealers will be announced going forward with deliveries to individual customers expected to start this June. The car's catalogue price is 34,990 euros, including the battery.
