Huge weekend looms for NISMO athletes in Japan, Europe and Australia

NISMO race fans have a busy weekend ahead from August 27 to 28, with race action kicking off in Japan, Europe and Australia.

The Suzuka 1000km Super GT event will be held this weekend at the home of the Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix in Japan.

One of the most prestigious races on the Super GT calendar, Nissan will be looking to continue its unbeaten run in GT500 in 2016 – the GT-R having won all four races contested so far this year.

Last year, the championship-winning GT-R of Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli started from pole at Suzuka; in GT300 action, Katsumasa Chiyo, André Couto and Ryuichiro Tomita took the race victory.

In Europe, the next round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup is scheduled for the Hungaroring. Lucas Ordóñez will add a sprint race weekend to his Endurance Cup duties this week, stepping in alongside Alex Buncombe while Mitsunori Takaboshi competes in Suzuka as the third driver in the No.46 GT-R in GT500.

Sean Walkinshaw and Ricardo Sanchez will do battle aboard the No.22 GT-R GT3 entry in Hungary.

The European Le Mans Series returns to Circuit Paul Ricard this week with 11 LM P2 Nissan-powered prototypes joining 20 Nissan-powered LM P3 entries.

Renault-Nissan athlete Andrea Pizzitola returns for his second outing for Algarve Pro Racing, while NISMO athlete Harry Tincknell continues his championship charge for G-Drive Racing – entering this weekend with an eight point lead in the championship.

In Australia, Nissan Motorsport will complete its final Super Sprint round at Sydney Motorsports Park, formerly known as Eastern Creek Raceway.

The Sydney event is the final sprint round of the year before the endurance battles kick off next month at Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast.
