James Moffat takes seventh place at Barbagallo Raceway

WANNEROO, Australia Nissan Motorsport's James Moffat has finished in seventh place during Race 9 of the V8 Supercars Championship last weekend.

Moffat, debuting new major support from Toshiba in partnership with Intel Security, qualified 10th and used smart race strategy to move up to 10th at the end of the 200km race.

The result marks Moffat's best result for the year after a difficult start to his 2015 campaign. He now sits 15th in the championship chase.

Michael Caruso also had a strong day, coming home in 10th place in his NISMO Nissan Altima V8.

Todd Kelly qualified 18th before making good gains, finishing in 13th place.

Jack Daniel's Nissan driver Rick Kelly will look back on this race as the one that got away. Having finished inside the top 10 in both of Saturday's races, Kelly was on target for a potential podium today, only to suffer from a long pit stop that dropped him down a lap. He finished 20th but has maintained 10th overall.

The next round of the V8 Supercars Championship will be held at Winton Motor Raceway in two weeks.

"Seventh is a reasonably good result to finish the weekend," said James Moffat.

"Clearly, strategy played a key role in the outcome with the way the Safety Car fell. We planned to be on the soft tire at the end and it played out very well for us.

"I had a difficult mid stint on what should have been our better hards. At that point, I thought we were gone.

"We had a tough start to the year, but the guys at Nissan Motorsport continue to work really hard. Seventh isn't what we come racing for, but sometimes that's all you got and you just have to make the most of it."

Michael Caruso, #23 NISMO Nissan Altima V8

"It was good to move up through the field ands record a top 10 finish," said Michael Caruso.

"We still have a fair bit of work to do before we have a car that we're happy with week in, week out.

"The positives are that we're moving forward, and now we're off to a race track that we're very familiar with. Hopefully we can make it count."

Todd Kelly, #7 Nissan Altima V8

"I'm a bit disappointed today. It was a bit of an average day for us," said Todd Kelly.

"We made a couple of changes in the practice session today but didn't get through all of the program we had set out. It meant that we weren't in the right place for qualifying and that set the theme for the day.

"Our race strategy was a tough one. I was trying to look after the car the best I could to pass those guys on softs at the end, but it didn't fall for me. If that Safety Car had come out a few laps earlier, we would have been higher.

"It's all a little frustrating, but on the bright side, but for a big points race like this one, 13th overall probably isn't too bad."

Rick Kelly, #15 Nissan Altima V8

"We had a fantastic car on the soft tires, and we made a pretty steady start," said Rick Kelly.

"Unfortunately the timing of the safety car burnt us, and we had a mistake on the pit stop, which probably cost us a shot of a possible podium.

"We charged through the cars that were leading pretty quickly, even though we were a lap down, and we were in a good position to watch the battle at the end between (Craig) Lowndes and (Will) Davison.

"Not the result we were wanting considering the improved qualifying results we've had, and the fantastic car speed we had on the soft tires, I think we were on for a good result.

"It's just something for us to look at. We'll keep our chins up. Our pace was a positive, but we were definitely chasing a top-five result there."
