MORE FROM BATHURST: Jack Daniel's Racing Tops Twice at SuperTest

Jack Daniel's Racing Nissan Altima driver Rick Kelly twice topped the time sheets out of the three sessions for the season opening Sydney.com SuperTest today at Sydney Motorsport Park, in a strong showing for the entire Nissan Motorsport squad.

In a testing only livery paying tribute to Jack Daniel's 10 years in V8 Supercars, Kelly was quickest in the first two outings, before settling for fifth on the overall time sheet for the day.

The sessions primarily were a chance for Kelly to settle in with new race engineer George Commins and data engineer Giovanni Columbo.

The final day of the SuperTest will see activity concluded with a full-field SuperShootout.

"We went really well this time last year at the test day and we then had a really up and down year, so we never get too far ahead of ourselves," said Rick Kelly.

"Nevertheless, compared to the field this time last year, I think we are stronger, we've had all sessions topped by the black side of the garage, which is exciting for us.

"For me it's more so just working with George (Commins, Rick's new engineer) and Giovanni (Colombo, new data engineer), working as a group, making good decisions, and figuring out how each other works.

"So today was simple for us, just going through the motions of making different changes and making feedback.

"So for us to have that pace in the car is very exciting, and it changes your whole mindset; you're more relaxed, because you know the car is capable of great things.

"You can just jump in the car and drive it, which is exciting."
