Nissan Announces Best Ever February Market Share in Europe

Today, Nissan announced its highest ever European market share for the month of February.

Nissan secured 3.9% of the overall European market, up a full percentage point from a year ago.

Monthly sales within the region (including Infiniti) reached 53,781 units representing a 53% rise over February 2010.

It brings total sales within the region for the first two months of 2011 to more than 100,000 units, nearly 25,000 up on 2009.

Sales were up across all major markets including Russia and the UK where Nissan is now established as the top-selling Japanese brand.

Qashqai and Juke made significant contributions to the record performance and these two models, together with Murano, now account for over a quarter of all sales within the European crossover segment.

Bernard Loire, Vice President of Sales Operations in Europe commented: “Nissan has made clear its intention to regain the title of ‘Number one’ Japanese brand in Europe. These results demonstrate that our words are backed up by our performance in the market.

“Nissan in Europe has consistently increased its market share over the last three years, and we are targeting 2011 to be our best year ever.

“This will be supported by the continuing success of cars like Qashqai, which recently surpassed one million sales globally, as well as the full sales ramp up of new models like Micra and the 100% electric Nissan LEAF.”

The first customer deliveries of Nissan LEAF - the 2011 European Car of the Year – began this month in selected European countries. It will launch in most western European markets by the end of the year.

While in the summer, customers of the fourth generation Micra will be able to choose one of the cleanest and most economical petrol engines in the world. The Micra DIG-S features a supercharged 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder engine, delivering ultra low CO2 emissions of just 95g / km.
