(June 9, 2008) – On the heels of the best sales month in history for the Nissan Altima, Nissan North America, Inc., announced it will modify production at its Canton, Miss., vehicle assembly plant to meet consumer demand. To meet the needs of the marketplace, an additional shift of Altima production will be added to the car system at the Canton plant. Nissan North America reported record May sales of 34,428 units for Altima Sedan, Hybrid and Coupe, up 38.3 percent versus the prior year. “With flexibility built into our systems, we’re able to quickly adapt to the changing landscape of the marketplace,” said Bill Krueger, senior vice president of Manufacturing, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, and Total Customer Satisfaction for the Americas at Nissan North America, Inc. “Nissan Altima is extremely popular with customers that demand durability, quality and fuel-efficiency and our systems are well designed to meet that growing demand.” Technicians currently located in Canton’s truck system will move to the new afternoon shift for Altima. Workforce rebalance will begin June 23with full production targeted for the first week of September. To continue balancing inventory levels, Canton’s truck system will move to one shift. Canton produces the Nissan Titan full-size pickup truck, Nissan Quest minivan, Nissan Armada full-size SUV and Infiniti QX56 full-size luxury SUV. At the powertrain assembly plant in Decherd, Tenn., work schedules will be adjusted to meet the revised production demand. Nissan North America, Inc.
