Nissan's Canton Plant Recognized for Energy-Savings Program

CANTON, Miss. (Jan. 9, 2009) – Nissan North America’s vehicle assembly plant in Canton, Miss.,  has been recognized by the Mississippi Development Authority’s (MDA) Energy Division for outstanding achievement in energy efficiency and management. The award is presented annually to businesses and organizations for successfully reducing energy consumption and carbon-dioxide emissions.

“At Nissan, we place great importance on protecting the environment,” said Dan Bednarzyk, vice president, manufacturing - Canton.  “Every day we look for opportunities to minimize the environmental impact of our facilities by conserving the use of energy, water and resources. We are proud to receive this award, which confirms our commitment to doing what’s right.”

Nissan participated with the MDA and the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Save Energy Now” program to identify measures that reduced the plant’s energy consumption. The plant was able to reduce, by about 400,000 BTUs*, the amount of energy used to produce each vehicle.“

Nissan’s Canton Plant has been labeled an Energy Star Plant by the Environmental Protection Agency for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
