Nissan sponsors ¡LatinFest! in Mississippi as part of its commitment to cultural diversity

  • ¡LatinFest! is an annual festival celebrating the culture and contributions of the Hispanic community in Mississippi
  • Nissan supports the event as part of its longstanding mission to promote America's diverse cultural heritage
  • Nissan's sponsorship of ¡LatinFest! tops off the company's broader engagement in Hispanic Heritage Month

CANTON, Miss. — Nissan is proud to serve as the presenting sponsor for ¡LatinFest! 2016, which will be hosted by the Latin American Business Association in Canton this Saturday, October 15. The festival brings together businesses, public officials and visitors from across the region and the country for a celebration of Latino culture and the Hispanic community's contributions in Mississippi. ¡LatinFest! will mark the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15 in the United States.

"Through the Nissan Foundation, our company has actively worked to promote a greater appreciation and understanding of America's diverse cultural heritage for almost 25 years. Sponsoring ¡LatinFest! offers a great opportunity for us to further advance that commitment," said Steve Marsh, vice president of Nissan's Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant. "We look forward to celebrating this year's event with people from the city of Canton, the state of Mississippi and many other places around the U.S."

¡LatinFest! is an annual event that is currently in its fifth year, and it will be hosted at the Canton Multipurpose Center for the first time. The festival features a wide range of activities, including live music from five different bands, dancing and a diversity of cultural cuisine. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi Canton, One Church of Ridgeland and the Mississippi chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers will host an interactive Kids Zone, which will have sponsored activities as well for children.

"¡LatinFest! reflects several of Nissan's core values, from the power of curiosity and education to the need to understand and respect diverse perspectives,"  said Jeffrey Webster, Nissan's director of Diversity and Inclusion. "As a Japanese company that has been operating in the United States for decades, cultural diversity is of great importance to us."

¡LatinFest! is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and part of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross of Mississippi. For more information, please visit www.latinfest.org.

Nissan's sponsorship of ¡LatinFest! is one of several activities the company participated in during Hispanic Heritage Month. This month, Nissan announced the release of a video series titled "Hispanics Who Dominate" that brings to life the stories of everyday Hispanic heroes. The videos provide a glimpse into the tasks and challenges faced by the featured Hispanic community heroes as they work to improve their lives and the lives of others.

Also, the Nissan-sponsored Mexican National Team took on New Zealand for a soccer match at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, home of the automaker's North American headquarters. The soccer teams faced each other as part of the Mexican National Team's five-stop U.S. tour. The match featured an array of activities for fans such as a Nissan-sponsored interactive fan zone featuring Nissan cars and trucks, including a TITAN XD wrapped in "El Tricolor's" signature red, white and green.
