  • Increased hiring comes as Brazilian manufacturing footprint moves forward

SAO PAULO, Brazil – Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO and Chairman Carlos Ghosn will be a keynote speaker at Women's Forum Brazil, a networking summit in Sao Paulo focused on gender equity.

Ghosn will discuss the unique opportunities for women as the auto industry tries to meet surging demand in emerging markets and hire thousands of new employees. Ghosn, who was born in Brazil and spent part of his childhood in Rio de Janeiro, will also discuss the progress of Renault and Nissan in hiring and promoting women in the Americas.

"Renault and Nissan are whole-heartedly committed to gender equity," Ghosn said. "We are seeing more and more women move through the professional pipeline into leadership roles. But our industry needs to accelerate the pace of change if we are to compete in the global competition for talent."

Renault-Nissan is sending a 60-person delegation, including female employees based in a wide variety of key management positions, to the Women's Forum Brazil, June 17-18. The second annual Women's Forum Brazil includes networking sessions and debates with public- and private-sector leaders from throughout the region.

Together, stronger in Latin America's economic engine of growth
Renault and Nissan have dramatically increased visibility and manufacturing operations in Brazil, the seventh largest economy in the world.

In March, Renault inaugurated a major extension of its Curitiba plant, increasing annual production capacity from 280,000 to 380,000 vehicles. Brazil is now Renault's second largest market after France, with 241,594 cars sold in 2012 and a domestic market share of 6.6%.

Next year, Nissan will launch operations at an all-new manufacturing facility in Resende, in Rio de Janeiro. The factory will have the capacity to produce 200,000 vehicles annually for sale in Brazil. The factory will create nearly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Nissan is a sponsor of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro. Nissan will provide 4,500 vehicles to transport athletes, officials and journalists during the Games – the first time they've been held in South America.

Since 2006, Renault-Nissan has partnered with the Women's Forum and has been a top sponsor of the organization's premier global event, a 1,200-delegate conference in October in Deauville, France.
