Strong Figures from Nissan South Africa in July 2012

  • Nissan South Africa's strong footing in the market holds firm
  • 18.3% market growth over July 2011

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Nissan South Africa (NSA) has posted healthy figures for July 2012 as the local market saw an overall increase of 3.6% in comparison to June 2012, and an 18.3% increase on July 2011.

Nissan's local market share has increased to 9.2% - which is on a par with its market share in July 2011. Nissan's growth for the year to date remains exceptionally strong at 34.1% compared to 2011, in a market which is growing at only 9.4%.

In addition to positive June 2012 results, the 4123 units sold in July represent a 4% increase month-on-month, and a very healthy 17.6% compared to July last year.

Nissan's wide product offering and strong local following for the brand has produced this robust sales performance. This includes models such as the value-based NP200 half-ton Pick-Up, which posted 1359 units in July having already set records for the brand earlier this year, and the NP300 Hardbody which sold 954 units.

The popular Tiida and Qashqai models also feature strongly in July selling 423 and 359 units respectively. These models are strongly supported by Juke, Micra and Livina all selling approximately 300 units in July.

The healthy numbers come at an appropriate time, as Nissan Motor Company Limited (NML) Chief Operating Officer, Toshiyuki Shiga, will visit the South African operation in August to discuss Nissan's current plans and strategies in Africa - a large export market for Nissan South Africa.

Johan Kleynhans, Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, stated: “We are very proud of our July 2012 performance and I am confident that the positive results - which are rooted in the strong foundation of our NSA employees at all levels - will continue into the latter half of 2012."
