Who is Trevor?
As Chief Performance Officer for Nissan, Trevor is uniquely dedicated to the overall performance of the company. As well as running Nissan's regional operations, his management remit includes production and marketing, the global after sale business and the re-launch of the Datsun brand globally.

He promotes collaboration between the regions to increase management focus on each market and to improve the vehicle cycles within them. Trevor ensures that regional operations fit with the overall Nissan global plan.

Career History
Born in Leigh, Lancashire, UK, Trevor moved to Durham, UK, aged 15 and studied manufacturing and engineering technology at Durham Technical College.

He joined Nissan Motor Manufacturing U.K. (NMUK) at Sunderland in August 1985 as team leader in the manufacturing department, which makes him one of Nissan's longest-serving employees. Early in his manufacturing career, Trevor oversaw a significant milestone for Nissan in Europe: the launch of the Sunderland plant's first ever production line , which manufactured the Nissan Bluebird.

At Nissan he worked his way up through various manufacturing-related positions, from pure manufacturing, to engineering and then to general management, before becoming the managing director and plant manager of NMUK. In 2007 he took on responsibility for European manufacturing as Senior Vice President, responsible for Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing in Europe, subsequently moving to the company's regional headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland.

In 2012 he took on a global role as Corporate Senior Vice President for Global Supply Chain and was chairman of the operating committee for Africa, Middle East and India. In January 2013 Trevor was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Management Committee for AMIE. He was promoted to Chief Performance Officer in January 2014 and is based at the global HQ in Yokohama, Japan, with a lot of travel between the regions.

Achievements at Nissan
Trevor has many happy memories and achievements during his career at Nissan. One highlight was being part of building the Sunderland plant from scratch and producing the first Nissan cars in the UK. NMUK is now the centre of Nissan's European business from a manufacturing point of view.

Trevor has been closely involved with the new plant in St Petersburg, Russia, which launched successfully in 2009 and now is in the process of doubling its capacity. Meanwhile, in India he managed the growth of the new Alliance plant. By 2013 the plant is already making models for both Nissan and Alliance-partner Renault on three different platforms.

Personal Memory
Trevor's best personal memory was when Nissan launched the Qashqai (start of production in 2006) because it signaled a real turnaround in fortune not only for the Sunderland plant but also for Nissan in Europe. Qashqai was the model that put Nissan firmly on the map and is heralded as the pioneer of the crossover category.

Why is Nissan Different
Trevor says: "Nissan focuses on performance and achievement and embraces diversity. If you perform there is room for you." He cites Nissan's commitment to localization of management and the nurturing of local staff to take on more senior positions in each region as the key drivers for this.

Future Predictions
Trevor would like to see autonomous driving become a reality. Although the technology is close to being ready there is a need for legislation to match what's available to drivers. Autonomous cars would allow for safer driving and give access and mobility to people who currently are denied it through age or mobility issues.

Trevor says that electric vehicles are very important to Nissan and a key part of its future. Greater engagement is needed from public sector and governments to get infrastructure in place as well as better education of customers. Within the next ten years he expects a tipping point for widespread understanding and adoption of electric vehicles to be achieved.

  • In 2010, in recognition of his services to the business community in the UK's North East region, Trevor received an Honorary Doctorate in Science from Sunderland University
  • In 2011 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Technology from Northumbria University.
  • He was awarded a CBE in the Queen's New Year's Honor List in Jan 2012 for services to the North East.

In Trevor's Personal Time
Trevor used to play golf once a week but now rarely has the time. He has a partner, Julia, and three daughters, who live in the UK.

Trevor's Current Ride
In Japan, Trevor drives a Nissan Skyline Coupe and in the UK he has an Infiniti EX and a Nissan LEAF.

The first car he ever bought was a yellow Mini - in 1983.
