VIDEO REPORT: Nissan Mexicana Celebrates Four Million Vehicles, Nine Million Engines at Aguascalientes Plant

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico – Nissan Mexicana is celebrating the four-millionth car made at the company's plant in Aguascalientes. The model? The new Nissan Note, which went on sale in Mexico this summer.

This plant started operations on Nov. 13, 1982, as the engine, component and stamping plant. It began vehicle assembly operations in 1992. Since then, the increase of manufacturing operations and the production volume has grown dramatically. It is here where more than 6,200 workers support manufacturing of Nissan's Versa, March, Sentra and NOTE.

July also marks the nine-millionth engine made at Mexico's Aguascalientes plant.  Powertrain Plant Director Francisco Carbajal says it took about nine years to make the plant's first, one-million engines.

"I am very proud of my people working here.  They are very committed, very excited and with opportunity comes a new challenge, and every time we promise something, it's not just a promise.  We do it," said Carbajal.

Soon there will be a third Nissan plant in Mexico, bringing annual production capacity to one million vehicles in a market where Nissan holds nearly 25 percent of all car sales.
